Description

and the New York Times

Her work was recently the subject of a solo exhibition at  Août Gallery in Beirut

Much of my focus as been on exploring alternate notions of family and connection - through our ties to the global community

embodying the artist’s awe for the mystery of nature and the instinctive bond between animals and humans

Mara Held Laura Berger and the New York TimesGet Updates Mara Held is known for energetic yet delicate paintings on linen and paper depicting lyrical organic forms in vibrant colours. She uses intricately cut stencils for some patterns that evoke varied sources from plant life growing on ancient forest floors or pelagic forms found in coral reefs to Japanese woodcuts and psychedelic posters. Helds preferred medium is egg tempera, a painstaking technique mastered by Renaissance painters.
