Chinese Flower Stand From Jiangsu - 19th Century shawl Base size 40 x 40This Chinese flower stand dates from the 19th century. Made from red elm (zelkova) and known in China as 'jumu' or 'southern elm.' Red elm as the name suggests has a more red tone and has a more aesthetically pleasant grain. It was considered in China to be superior to its northern elm relative. Red elm is the typical wood used in pieces from Jiangsu province. This style of table is also known as a tea table and often came in pairs. A pair of these
