Kennet was originally produced at Merton Abbey using a technique which involved printing onto a dyed indigo cloth using a bleaching agent which removed the ground colour and at the same time printed reds

Many of these tiny pieces were marketed as gifts that could be sent in specially packed wooden "crates" that Royal Doulton sold them in as a Christmas or special occassion gift - we have seen literature that even allowed for a message on the box

their plain brown and grey-fawn plumage with tell-tale black cheek spots
