Brass Bound Jackfruit Chest From South India - 18th Century Lembata Displayed individually or grouped togetherThis is a nice early example of a Jackfruit wood Indian storage chest from South India. It has brass corners and hand forged iron lifting handles. The interior is spacious with an internal candle box. A sturdy chain stops the chest lid from falling back straining the hinges. This chest would have been used as a dowry chest, valuables such as textiles, family jewellery and cash would have been stored inside. The back plate for the handles on the sides
