Instituted 1 June 1956. (1956 1990 issue). Constructed of silver, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon with pentagonal bronze backplate and horizontal pinback, the obverse with raised figures representing the Army, Navy, and Air Force, circumscribed by an inscription of FR HERVORRAGENDE VERDIENST NATIONALE VOLKSARMEE (FOR OUTSTANDING SERVICE NATIONAL PEOPLES ARMY), the
